Is my Adopt Me trade fair? How to check in 30 seconds

A four-step check for any Adopt Me trade: tier both sides, apply the Neon and potion math, look for the three classic traps, then run the WFL calculator. Plus the scams that survive a fair-looking trade.

A cartoon trade window with a frost fury on one side and a stack of pets on the other

You are in the trade window. The other player has put up a pile, the timer in your head is running, and the honest answer to "is this fair" is that you do not know. Here is the check, in the order that catches the most bad trades fastest.

Step 1: tier both sides, ignore rarity

Find each pet on the Adopt Me value list and note its tier: S, A, B, C or D. Do not look at the rarity tag in the trade window. The rarity tag tells you the hatch odds of the egg the pet came from years ago. The tier tells you what it trades for today. The Cow is a Rare in the B-tier. The Dragon is a Legendary in the C-tier. The Blue Dog is an Uncommon in the S-tier.

The rule behind the tiers: the year a pet stopped being obtainable matters more than anything else. 2019 pets are grails. 2020 pets are strong. 2021 and later fill the middle. Anything still hatchable today is an add-on.

Step 2: apply the Neon and potion math

VariantMultiplierHolds for
Neon×4 (four pets to craft)B-tier and up. Filler Neons lose most of it
Mega Neon×16 (four Neons)A-tier and up fully. B-tier mostly
Fly or Ride+10% eachWanted pets. Nothing on filler

A Neon of a wanted pet really is worth about four of them, because that is what it costs to make and nobody crafts one to sell it at a loss. A Neon of a filler pet is worth a Neon of a filler pet. If someone offers a Neon Dog for your Shark, they are counting on you doing the ×4 math on a pet that does not deserve it.

Step 3: look for the three traps

  • The pile. Many pets for one. Count tiers, not pets. Eight C-tiers add up to about one B-tier. If the single pet on your side is A-tier, the pile is a loss no matter how tall it is.
  • The Legendary that isn't. A Legendary from the Cracked, Pet or Royal Egg (Dragon, Unicorn) or from the 600 Robux Griffin gamepass can be obtained today. They are C-tier add-ons. Anyone presenting one as the centerpiece of a trade for a retired pet is hoping you read the tag.
  • The urgency. "Values are dropping", "last chance", "I have another offer". Values move over weeks. Anyone rushing you is rushing you because the trade fails a second look. Close the window and check.

Step 4: run the calculator

Put both sides into the WFL calculator with the right variants and potions. It adds up tier points (S 100, A 40, B 15, C 5, D 1), multiplies Neon by four and Mega by sixteen, adds ten percent per potion, and compares. Within fifteen percent is fair. It also shows the points per side, so if the verdict surprises you, you can see which pet is doing the work.

If the calculator says fair and you like what you get more than what you give, accept. That is the whole point of a fair trade: both sides walk away with the pet they wanted.

Scams that survive a fair-looking trade

A trade can be fair on values and still rob you. These are the ones to know, because a value check will not catch them.

ScamHow it worksDefense
Trust trade"Give me yours first and I'll give you mine." They don't.Never. The trade window exists so nobody goes first.
Last-second swapThey put up the right pet, then swap it for a similar-looking one as you accept.Check the final screen every time. Adopt Me shows a confirmation for a reason.
Cross tradeItems in another game, or Robux, for your pet.Against Roblox rules and unenforceable. Whoever goes first loses.
Fake middlemanA "trusted" third player holds both items. They keep both.No middleman is needed for an in-game trade. Anyone suggesting one is the scam.
Duplicate offerTwo identical-looking pets, one Neon, one not, and you accept the wrong one.Read the variant label on the pet in the window, not in chat.
Value claim"This pet is worth way more, check my list." Their list is a screenshot.Check a real list yourself. Two if it matters.

What a fair trade looks like in practice

A few shapes that come up constantly and are fair, so you recognize them.

  • Frost Fury for Cerberus. Both A-tier, both 2020 Robux pets. Fair either way.
  • Two Sharks for a Kangaroo. Two B-tiers for a low A-tier. Fair, the Kangaroo side might ask for a small add.
  • Neon Cow for a Frost Fury. A Neon B-tier against an A-tier. Fair, and one of the classic trades.
  • Owl for Parrot. Two S-tiers that swap places on lists every few weeks. Fair, argue about adds.
  • Crow plus add for Frost Dragon. S-tier for a higher S-tier. Fair only with a real add, like an A-tier legendary.

And the shapes that are never fair: any number of D-tier pets for a legendary, a permanent-egg Legendary for a retired Rare like the Cow, or anything where you have to give your pet first.

FAQ

How do I know if an Adopt Me trade is fair?

Tier both sides on a value list, apply the Neon and potion multipliers, count tiers rather than pets, and run it through a WFL calculator. Within fifteen percent is fair.

Is it fair to trade a Legendary for a Rare?

Sometimes. The Cow is a Rare that beats most permanent-egg Legendaries. Age and demand decide, not the rarity tag.

Should I accept a trade that is fair but not a win?

Yes if you want the pet you are getting more than the one you are giving. Fair means neither side is being taken. Waiting for a win on every trade means never trading.
